Anjum Singh
I have grown up with stories of partition from my parents and stories of pre-partition Pakistan from my father, Paramjit Singh. His eyes still light up when he speaks of his nanka in Lahore. My dadi belonged to a jeweller family from Lahore. Although she sold a lot of her jewellery so that my father could go to the art school. I am lucky to have two beautiful pieces. My mother, who is a Bengali, wears a kadha given by my dadi. Many years ago, a group of women had come from Pakistan to attend a seminar in Delhi. One of them accosted my mother and asked how she was wearing such an old design from Lahore!
I suppose this is how links are made and chains are formed and it is impossible to cut them, however hard anyone wants to try.
